POSITION TITLE: INFORMATION AND ADVOCACY OFFICER
NATURE AND SCOPE: The Information and Advocacy Officer will be
responsible for working with asylum seekers, refugees, immigrants and
their related needs
WORK SCHEDULE: **Apply on the website** hour week
REPORTS TO: Project Leader
RESPONSIBILITIES:
_CASE WORK WITH CLIENTS_
* Engaging with and building professional trusting relationships with
individual clients, treating them with dignity and respect, and
working within the values of Crosscare
* Provide information to, and advocate on behalf of people who are
homeless or at high risk of homelessness
* Provide information and advocacy on social welfare and housing
* Provide information on the asylum process and on the rights and
entitlements of asylum seekers and refugees
* Ensuring that clients have access to and understand the Health
Service
* Compile written submissions on behalf of clients to relevant State
and NGO bodies to effectively advocate for access to relevant supports
and services
* Make appropriate referrals/ applications for accommodation,
support and related services, as required
* Working effectively with colleagues in a multi-project environment
_PROJECT-SPECIFIC WORK_
* Respond to emerging issues, as appropriate
* Social media
* Volunteer management
_ADMINISTRATION/POLICY_
* Maintain up-to-date client records on the internal database, the
PASS system and in more detailed paper files where required
* Monitor and track clients trends and issues to contribute to
social policy development
* Keep up to date with asylum/refugee case law and policies
* Be conversant with the application of relevant legislation and
policies in relation to housing, homelessness, social welfare systems
* Collaborating with other Crosscare projects on multi-issue cases
_ORGANISATIONAL_
* Working as part of the CIAS team (which includes the Migrant
Project and Housing & Welfare Information) engaging in team meetings,
supervision, reviews and planning sessions
* Maintaining Crosscare confidentiality at all times and follow data
protection legislation requirements and policies and procedures
* Representing Crosscare at different fora
* Promote positive working relationships with external organisations
THE HOLDER:
(QUALIFICATION/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS)
_ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:_
* Fluent English and high literacy skills
* Minimum of one years experience of information provision on a
one-to-one basis
* Experience of advocacy work on behalf of clients
* A working knowledge of Irish housing, homeless and social welfare
systems, processes and legislation
* An understanding of the national and international experiences of
asylum seekers and refugees
* Degree / post-graduate qualification in social sciences or
equivalent
_DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:_
* Writing, researching and editing skills
* Knowledge of the International Protection System
* Use of social media and website management
* Knowledge of other languages
_PERSONAL SKILLS:_
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Motivation and ability to work on own initiative
* Organisational skills
* IT Skills (MS Office essential, experience in database use
desirable)
